"In 2016 I was sight-seeing in New York. A Black Lives Matter group were holding a protest in Grand Central Terminal, and I learnt the incredibly awful story of Aiyana Stanley-Jones. I won't recount it here, it's very easy to find online. It is a very upsetting story. I wrote this almost immediately, and for me it is a very upsetting song.
"I see inherent racism; I know that I'm part of it and that horrifies me. I apologise for not voicing this song sooner"

lyrics
Among These Stars (Black Lives Matter)
Bella Hardy
In Grand Central I raised my fist, because
black lives matter
And I looked up at that green ceiling with its
painted heavens looking down
And I thought of our brief time among these stars
Among these stars, among these stars,
where black lives matter
Among these stars, among these burning stars
I thought of fluorescent constellations, from when
young lives mattered
Stuck so neatly to my ceiling, safe to
shine down on my childhood dreams
And I thought of our brief time among these stars
Among these stars, among these stars,
where black lives matter
Among these stars, among these burning stars
I wondered if Aiyana Jones was dreaming
Or lying wide awake and staring at her ceiling
When a shell made fire of that bed
and a bullet found her tiny head
To put an end to her brief time among these stars
Among these stars, among these stars,
where black lives matter
Among these stars, among these burning stars
In Grand Central I raised my fist, because
black lives matter
And I was shamed by the hypocrisy of
what we do and do not see
And the choices that we make among these stars
Among these stars, among these stars,
where black lives matter
Among these stars, among these burning stars
Among these stars, among these stars,
where black lives matter
Among these stars, among these burning stars

The experimental spirit permeating this collection of Japanese acid folk foreshadowed the arrivals of city pop, the psych revival, and folktronica. Bandcamp Album of the Day Jan 25, 2024
